Bad things come in threes

They say that bad things come in threes. My car broke down, I didn't get accepted to pharmacy school, and now, well suffice it to say I need to tell Jean that I'll be coming alone to her wedding. Anyway...blogspot is obviously not the place to discuss it; blogspot is the place to discuss SHOPPING. Which I did today.

My grandma gave me a leftover giftcard to Kohl's last time I was in St. Louis, because she couldn't find anything she liked. So today I used it and bought three new rings, only two of which I could find pictures of online.
The first is this blue topaz ring:

Normally I'm not a big fan of topaz, but this ring was only $9.99, so I bought it. Actually all three rings were on sale for $9.99, but these two are on the Kohl's website for $6.99.

The next one is this cubic zirconia one, but the one I got is a pretty peach color instead of pink:

And the last one that I got is sort of similar, but the stone is smaller and more rectangular than square, and it's dark bluish green.

After that I went to New York and Company, which is having a big sale, so I bought this whole outfit:
I wasn't sure about this dress at first, since I don't really like tiered skirts, but it was really flattering. The colors are really playful, and I think this is definately one of those dresses you can pair with a jacket, a pair of tights, and chunky boots and wear into fall. Oh yeah, it was on sale for $24.99, marked down from $42.99
I bought these shoes to go with it:
$13.99 marked down from $26.99. They're actually pretty comfortable. I think I might get a lime green pedicure when I wear the outfit to match the dress.
I got this necklace ($4.99, down from $19.99) and bracelet ($2.99, but I forget what it was originally...probably like $8.99 I think) to go with it. I got them in the same purple as the shoes, but for some reason the NY&C website doesn't have the purple ones on their website.

I also bought a pair of purple and silver earrings to match, which I couldn't find on the website. What do you guys think? Too much purple?

Oops

Today I told myself that I wasn't going to spend any money. Then I got bored, so I decided to go to Borders. I had a 40% off coupon and $5 in Borders Bucks, so I figured I wouldn't spend too much, and I didn't really. I bought this book:

Icons of Fashion: The 20th Century, edited by Gerda Buxbaum. It goes through decade by decade and shows the en vogue fashions and trends, and the biggest designers throughout the century. If you haven't noticed by now, I loooove fashion and I wish I had thousands upon thousands of dollars that I could spend on couture. The book was $19.99, and with my coupon and Borders Bucks I got it and a magazine for about $11.

I've been looking for a new watch lately, and the one I really want is this Fossil blue water-dial watch:

It's sold out on the Fossil website, and the cheapest I can find it for on eBay is $76.50. I can't quite convince myself to spend that much yet. But isn't it just amazing!?

Instead I stopped by Macy's on my way home and bought a Style & Co watch for $20. I couldn't find a picture of the watch I got, but it's a lot like this one, except all gold and it has white rhinestones around the face:
When I got home, I realized that the chronograph isn't really real, it's just decals on the face. I was excited about the chronograph, so that kind of upset me. I thought about taking it back, but I still like the look of it and it was only $20, so I'll probably keep it.

Nothing Shopping Can't Fix

Today I bought a new thermostat housing for my car:

I don't know if this is actually a thermostat housing, but when I did a google image search for "thermostat housing", this is what came up. I've had a coolant leak in my car for awhile, but it was always really slow-I just added some more coolant maybe about once every 3000 miles. But the past couple days my car kept getting really hot and almost overheating, and my low coolant light was on. So yesterday I walked to Walgreens and got some more antifreeze. As I was pouring it into the reservior I realized that it was draining rapidly, onto the pavement below. So I called my car place and took it over, and they fixed it today. I was afraid I'd have to replace the radiator or something, but luckily this housing thing was a lot cheaper than I thought it was going to be.
Thermostat housing + labor and 2 gallons antifreeze: $170

When I got home after picking up my car, I checked my mail, and had a letter from the pharmacy school I had an interview with a couple weeks ago. I didn't get in. I cried a little, and talked to my mom and Mike an realized that moving back home and getting a job somewhere as a microbiologist/molecular biologist/cell biologist probably is a good idea, as I can save up some money before reapplying to pharm schools and hopefully buy a new car.

To make myself feel better I went to the Tanger oulets in Branson. I bought:

Boot cut jeans at Tommy Hilfiger. There are three brands of jeans I really love cause they fit perfectly. They are Old Navy, Levis, and Tommy Hilfiger. I looove ON jeans, but they're such low quality I can only buy them if they're on sale for $15 or less. I've had 4 pairs of ON jeans in the past 4 years maybe, and 2 of them I had to throw away because they ripped. I really like how Levi jeans fit and how well-made they are, but even when they're sale, they're too expensive for my thrifty lifestyle, so I don't buy them that often. Tommy jeans are also usually too expensive, but this pair fit my thrifty lifestyle perfectly! I don't care if Tommy Hilfiger screams "douchebag", these jeans look awesome. Originally $69, I paid $15. Savings: $54. I love outlet shopping :)

Blue Coach ponytail scarf. This was really hard to find a picture of. This one is from eBay, which is why there's a Pooh card underneath it. The seller is S. Pooh. I can't decide if I want to wear this scarf in my hair (I actually don't like the look of ponytail scarves, so I'd wear it as a headband) or if I want to tie it around my purse traps, but either way it'll be super-cute. Original price: $38. I paid: $11.24 (it was 1/2 off of $24.99, and then the cashier used a 10% off coupon). Savings: $26.76

Ripstop shorts from Eddie Bauer. The ones I got are actually more brown than these, but this is the only picture I could find. I really need more shorts, and these were only $15, so I couldn't pass them up. I also got a sea green half zip sweatshirt, but I couldn't find a picture of anything like it. Merrr.. Ripstop shorts- Originally: $29.99. I paid: $14.99. Savings: $15.oo Sea green sweatshirt- Originally: $29.99. I paid: $8.99. Savings: $21.00

I couldn't find pictures of the stuff I bought at the Gap, so here are some things that are similar:

Ruched headband. The one I got is basically the same, but it's all a pinky rose color. Sort of the color down at the bottom of this one. Originally: $6.99. I paid: $6.99. Savings: $0.00. Oops!

I got some Gap body pajamas. The top that I got is about this color, but it has cap sleeves and a little gathering at the neckline. Originally: $24.50. I paid: $12. Savings: $12.50

The shorts that I got basically look like this, except they're the same blue as the t-shirt, they have black polka dots, and the ruffle on the bottom isn't quite as big. Originally: $19.99. I paid $15.99. Savings: $4.
Total savings for the day: $133.26 Woot!!
Alright, I'm off to take a shower and put on my super-soft new PJs :-)

T-shirts and Roller Derby

I've decided to start blogging about all the things I buy. Partially just for fun, and partially to hopefully rein in my spending a little bit. Although it might also have the opposite effect. We'll see.

Okay, first I wanted to post about a couple T-shirts I got from Old Navy the other day, but they're not on the ON website, and I can't find any pictures of them. Oh, well. In other ON news, they apparently have all their ribbed tanks on sale for $2 tomorrow (well...today...Saturday). If I needed more tanks I'd definately go. I might go anyway.

So today (well...yesterday) I bought this cute Skatin Worshiper t-shirt from Etsy member ModelCitizen:

This pic is kinda small. Maybe I'm not so good at this yet. :) Anyway, I loooove the neon blue color with the little pink skates down on the corner! It'll be perfect for practice, or just to wear around town. The blue one was on sale for $15, and I think I got the last one, cause it's not in her store anymore. But there's also a purple one with white skates that I like just as much, for $26. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21766371

I also got this roller derby glasses case from Etsy member osha:
I think this will be GREAT for practice! I wear my glasses to drive there, so you know, I can see, but I take them off for practice cause they're $350 Fendi glasses and I don't have vision insurance anymore to replace them if they get smashed when I take someone out (which I do quite often by the way; roller derby is awesome). I can totally just keep this case in one of the outside pockets on my skate bag and just slip my glasses in instead of putting them in my shoe, which is kind of gross.
I also bought antifreeze at Walgreens, and a pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut today, but those are not cool, so they don't get blogged about.
I'm thinking about going to the Tanger outlets down in Branson tomorrow when/if I get my car fixed, because I want a new watch and I think I'll look at Coach and Fossil.
Happy shopping!
